This summer I was very fortunate to be able to attend FIDM’s Three Days of fashion Summer camp and it was an amazing experience! I met so many great people from all over the country and we all shared one interest…fashion! The camp was such a blast. Each day we had different workshops and got to hear from professionals in the industry about their experience at FIDM and how they got to where they are today. I loved learning more about my dream career. We attended workshops for creating a T-shirt, product development, promotional campaigns, sketching, graphic design, and draping. I had an amazing time experiencing it all, but draping was definitely my favorite. The days consisted of the following…
Day 1: This day was introductory and we had time to meet new people and learn about the camp. We also decorated T-shirts, listened to a speaker who works for Disney and organizes the the costumes for performances, and learned about graphic design.
Day 2: The next day we listened to Nick Verreos from Project Runway speak about his two clothing lines and book that is coming out soon. He also brought a model and showed us several of his dresses and a blouse and legging ensemble. His pieces were incredible and so beautifully executed! Afterwards we got to take pictures with him and he signed my FIDM bag!
Day 3: The final day was sooo much fun because we took a draping class, which I enjoyed a lot! Then, we traveled to the LA campus and had lunch and took a tour of the campus. After our tour we attended a Q and A with two women in the Fashion Industry. Then, we had free time to go to the FIDM Scholarship store or the museum. I ended up checking out the store and I have to say it was one of the coolest places i’ve been to. It is similar to a thrift store and offers lot of unique pieces. I found two dresses and was so excited. What a great way to end the camp!
